That’s why there called dreams...
Waiting, hoping, wishing, dreaming.
Maybe today things will change.
All my waiting may be over,

"Milkweed" analysis about "Stopthief"
Imagine being in a place that you do not belong. You don't know where your parents were or if you ever even had any. You do not know your name or really anything at all. One day somebody takes you in as one of his own. He treats and cares for you as if you were part of his family. This and more happen in the novel "Milkweed" by Jerry Spinelli with one very inspiring character.
There are many characters in this book but one very remarkable character caught my eye. The first line is in his view and it says "I am running." It never says at the beginning that it is the unknown boy but you can assume it is when he runs into somebody that was trying to steal the same thing as him. This other character's name is Uri. Uncaringly, he takes him in as if he was one of them from the start. He doesn't care that he is not a Jew but a Gypsy. Unknowingly that now he will have to deal with his stupidity every now and then. Mainly, the reason for him not knowing stuff is because he probably almost died when he was younger and his parents did die, so he had no other way to live his life but to resort to stealing. Also, when Uri tells his story about how is brother must've been dead by now, it makes you wonder; is "Stoptheif" his lost brother? I think that he probably is the lost brother and that they will figure out his true identity later in the book. On the other hand, so far in the book he just seems like a odd boy that has to steal things and then run away as fast as a cheetah in order to not get caught. Getting smarter everyday now, "Stopthief" will soon be smart enough without getting told what to do and he will stay out of trouble.
"Stopthief" was in a place he did not belong; well he didn't even know the place he did belong until he found it. There was still a lot for him to learn, including his name that he does not know. As he finally found somewhere he belonged he started getting smarter and smarter and now is becoming an even more extraordinary character than before. Jerry Spinelli The author of "Milkweed" did a very fascinating thing with the characters and the plot to make you keep reading.
