Haitian Soccer Team

Imagine one day coming home, to nobody, nothing. Now imagine that you were in a soccer stadium and you along with your team mates were practicing for an upcoming soccer tournament, you got lucky and you along with your team mates survived, but unfortunately your coach and most of the country was not so lucky. Would you play in your tournament now? This Haitian soccer team was brave and strong, they decided to play. When you go to play, places take you in like their own, give you a field to practice upon, and a shelter to live in ten times nicer than your usual home. As you get ready for the tournament, you all sing together. After the first game, which they lost they were all very disappointed because now the next game is critical it is win or go home to the starving bodies buried by everything imaginable, and one of them could very well be somebody in your family, struggling terribly, drinking dirt, crying and praying like crazy, wishing they would just die already. Now this Haitian team, whom is now completely devastated after losing the critical game and mainly because they did not bring happiness and joy back to the country but even more disappointment and no they will be living and eating whenever somebody offers but most of the time never. Now you can imagine the struggles they face everyday so when you think that it is completely unfair that your parents won’t let you sleep over at a friend’s house don’t think that that is unfair because people in Haiti would be ecstatic to trade lives with you. Which is really sad when I think about it.

  1. Excellent perspective in this piece. You show your reader how important it is to lean on others in times of need. The sense of loss is strong, especially in the first few lines.
